| What is Podiatry? |
It is our practice philosophy to promote foot health at all times. Therefore we recommend regular check-ups. Professional advice and regular check ups will help achieve this.
Definition: Is a healthcare profession which involves the diagnosis and treatment of foot and lower leg problems. We treat/provide the following:
- Painfree removal of corns and callous
- Painfree management of dry, cracked heels
- Removal of plantar warts/verrucae
- Removal of ingrown toe nails
- Heel pain and plantar fascitis
- Full management/care of the diabetic foot
- Gait assessment for all ages
- Treatment and rehabilitation of sports injuries
- Orthotic therapy
- Footwear advice/education
BIOMECHANICS
The analysis of the function of human motion is called biomechanics. Podiatrists are experts in the biomechanical evaluation of the foot and lower limb. In treating foot pain and evaluating the needs of each patient, we carry out a mobile and dynamic examination. The assessment of the shape and motion of the limb allows for an accurate diagnosis of the cause of injuries or developmental deformities.
Treatment may include specific exercises and the prescription of foot orthoses.
ORTHOSES
Orthoses are custom made shoe inserts made to alleviate foot problems. This is a very important part of podiatric practice. It requires expert skill and knowledge. We at the Osteopathy and Podiatry Centre offer many types of orthotics depending on the patients requirements. Our functional orthotics are manufactured in a high tech, leading podiatric laboratory in Australia. |
